Turn Off Tune In Drop Out is a live recorded event that has been created in 2019 in Chengdu, China. The podcast invites the listener to a musical journey to the western region of Sichuan and to discover its rich cultural landscape. Each episode features local artists who share their personal experiences through a long discussion, intimate insights, musical tracks and a live studio performance. TTD Vol.1 – Bohan Phoenix
Also called, “Mr. Overseas,” Bohan Phoenix is a Chinese-born-American-raised hip hop sensation . Bohan discusses his rise to stardom in New York, the influence both China and the U.S. has on his work, and his past projects in Chengdu and future projects abroad, including a full length album to be released later this year.
TTD Vol.2 – Edhem & CY
Edhem, aka “Deadman” is a Xinjiang-born rapper who expresses himself in three languages and embrace a music halfway between traditions and modernity. CY , a young female rapper from Chengdu discuss her fascination for anime, the influence of rock’n roll and the gender issues at stake in hip-hop.
TTD Vol.3 – Wang Yitai (王以太)
In this episode, Wang Yitai tells us the importance of rapping in Chinese for a local audience, relates the popular television show Rap of China to a summer camp and shares his local and divine inspiration in the form of friends, family, and even the Bible. To Wang Yitai, it’s all about love.
